Maestro
William Morse has been Music Director and
Principal Conductor of the Jefferson Symphony
Orchestra since 1999. The orchestra continues to
develop and flourish under his leadership. He is
also the music director and conductor of the
Evergreen Chamber Orchestra.
Dr. Morse holds bachelor and master degrees in
music from Oberlin Conservatory and a doctorate
in orchestral conducting from the University of
Arizona. He has also studied at the Mozarteum
Academy of Music in Salzburg, Austria. He
is Professor Emeritus at Metropolitan State
College in Denver where he conducted the
Metropolitan State Symphony Orchestra and taught
Advanced Conducting and Music Theory.
A man of diverse musical talents, Dr. Morse is
fond of the literature for symphony and chamber
orchestra. His dynamic conducting style,
innovative musical taste, and outstanding
musicianship have made him very popular with
Colorado audiences.
Dr.
David Ackerman is composer-in-residence and
associate conductor of the Jefferson Symphony
Orchestra. A resident of Colorado since 1970, he
is originally from the Pacific Northwest. He has
taught music-related courses and multimedia at
the University of Colorado at Denver (UCD) since
1990. He holds a BA in speech/theater from the
University of Puget Sound, a BS in scoring and
arranging from the University of Colorado, a
Master in Humanities from UCD, and a doctorate
in music composition from the University of
Northern Colorado.
Dr.
Ackerman has composed, arranged, and conducted
for the Jefferson Symphony summer
concerts-in-the-parks since 1990 and has written
for and performed nationally with the Colorado
Symphony Orchestra, the San Antonio Symphony
Orchestra, the Kenai Peninsula Orchestra
(Alaska), and with many other regional
orchestras. Internationally, his original works
have been performed in Chile and will be
performed in the United Kingdom in 2005. Dr.
Ackerman won first place in Gospel Division in
the 1988 Colorado Song Writer’s award for “By
My Side.” His composition commissions
include “Commemoration Overture” by
the Colorado School of Mines, “Scottish
Overture” by the Colorado Mills
Corporation, and “The Jazz Player”
by the Jefferson Symphony Orchestra. Symphony
No. l, “Redemption,” a major orchestral
composition, was premiered at the JSO’s March
2005 concert.
Dr.
Ackerman lives in Westminster, Colorado, with
his wife, Rita.
Mallinson
is active as a musician and conductor / director
in Metro Denver. He has completed Bachelors and
Masters degrees in Music, and additional
graduate studies have developed his conducting
and directing skills. He is currently the
Director of Music at Wheat Ridge United
Methodist Church. Prior to his retirement, he
was a
Music and Orchestra teacher for Adams County
School District I in primary and secondary
education. As a tubaist, he has soloed with the
Jefferson Symphony and the Arapahoe
Philharmonic. In addition. he is a member of the
Jefferson Symphony Brass Quintet ensemble.
