Kelsey Tamayo, 19, of Radcliff, KY, is a freshman percussion performance major at Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, MD). She was valedictorian of her graduating class at John Hardin High School. A winner of numerous awards, Ms. Tamayo has performed as a percussion soloist extensively in America and abroad. Of her performance at New York Carnegie Weill Hall, the IBLA Times wrote,” She is a natural talent of great fluidity and striking technical ability.” A 2006 Marimba Grand Prize winner of the IBLA International Instrumental Young Artist Competition, Ms. Tamayo completed the national tour with brilliant reviews in such places as New York University, Radford University and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. As the 2005 Eisteddfod Music Instrumental Young Artists Competition Winner, Tamayo performed on Sky News BBC in Llangollen, Wales. She has performed as soloist with the Burbank Philharmonic, Montgomery Symphony, Louisville Orchestra, and several other orchestras. She has also performed as a soloist in eight European countries. Only three years ago Ms. Tamayo had to stand on wooden risers to perform on the marimba. NPR’s “From the Top” stated: “Kelsey is well-known as a percussion powerhouse. Standing at barely five feet tall, she may be small in stature, but her sound is anything but.” Ms. Tamayo has live internet performance recordings on WUOL Louisville Radio “Lunch Time Classics,” NPR “From the Top,” and Great Britain’s Sky News BBC. Her percussion teachers include Robert Van Sice, Allen Otte, and Mark Tate. On January 12th, she performed
